In order to get everyone acquainted to their character’s backgrounds and history, Baz Luhrmann gave each of the actors of “The Great Gatsby” a research folder about the 20’s; it consisted on books, information decks and iPods with music and footage from the time. Getting a freebie from Mr. Luhrmann was clearly Carey’s favourite part about it.
